Theatre Education Student Chris D'Amato Receives MaryBeth Henry Service Scholarship

BA Theatre Education student Chris D'Amato has been awarded the MaryBeth Henry Service Scholarship, presented annually to a student who exemplifies outstanding leadership in service and community engagement.

D'Amato has demonstrated a strong commitment to service throughout his time at Montclair State University. As a student in Theatre for Community Impact, he has collaborated on theater for social change projects serving communities off campus while also serving as a Clifton Township council member.

Following graduation, D'Amato will complete a student teaching placement in the theater program at Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI). He plans to pursue a career teaching theater full-time at the high school level, combining his passion for education with his commitment to community engagement.

In addition to his academic and civic work, D'Amato is writing an original play inspired by his experiences in local government. Titled Adequate Notice: A Political Satire Totally, Absolutely, 100% Not About Clifton, New Jersey, the work uses satire to explore the realities of municipal politics through an exaggerated and humorous lens, drawing on his firsthand experiences serving on the Clifton Township Council.

The MaryBeth Henry Service Scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional leadership through service and community engagement, reflecting D'Amato's dedication to using theater as a vehicle for education, civic participation, and positive social impact.
