Ride with Red Hawk Pride: Montclair State University License Plates
Help bring Montclair Red Hawk license plates to New Jersey and show your university pride wherever the road takes you! Following a successful launch at Homecoming, with more than 100 supporters already on board, the campaign needs more members of the Montclair community to help make these specialty plates a reality.
Be Among the First: Help Bring Montclair Red Hawk License Plates to New Jersey
Imagine spotting a Red Hawk license plate on the Parkway. On Route 3. Down the Shore. In your hometown. Or right beside you in the supermarket parking lot. Now imagine knowing you helped make it happen.
Montclair State University is working to bring a specialty New Jersey license plate to the road — a bold, unmistakable way for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, supporters and friends to show their Red Hawk pride wherever life takes them.
"Montclair’s greatest successes are the graduates who go out and make a lasting impact on their communities," said President Jonathan Koppell. "I invite all our alumni and friends to join the Founding 500 and help put Red Hawk pride on the road. Let's celebrate everything you, our alumni, do for New Jersey and make sure the love we share for this great University is known from Exit 0 to Exit 172!"
The campaign launched at Homecoming, where the response was already taking flight: more than 100 members of the Montclair community have stepped forward to show their support. Now, we’re looking for the next wave of Red Hawks to help make this vision a reality.
Introducing the Founding 500
Our goal is to secure 500 commitments from the Montclair community. Those who join this initial group will become the Founding 500 — the champions helping bring Red Hawk license plates to New Jersey roads.
This is your chance to be part of something lasting: a visible symbol of the Montclair community, connecting generations of Red Hawks and putting our university pride on display across the state.
Picture a sea of Red Hawk plates traveling New Jersey — on daily commutes, family road trips and weekend getaways. Every plate will be a reminder that Montclair pride doesn’t end at graduation. It travels with us.
Displaying Red Hawk plates on your vehicle is more than just a personal statement — it's a rolling emblem of school pride that elevates university recognition across the state and beyond. Every custom plate on the road serves as a visual testament to the strength and unity of the Red Hawk community, showcasing Montclair's growing footprint and lasting legacy wherever your journey takes you.
More than 100 have already joined the effort. Be a part of making Montclair history and help move the initiative forward, Every commitment brings us closer to seeing Red Hawk pride on the road.
“Being a Red Hawk is something you carry with you long after you leave campus. This license plate gives us a chance to show that pride every day, wherever we go, and to recognize fellow Red Hawks along the way. I’d love to see Montclair plates all across New Jersey — and I hope I can say I was one of the first to help make that happen.” — Marisol Ramirez '93, Montclair alumna and license plate campaign champion.

Once we reach those 500 commitments, additional steps with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) will be required before the plate can be finalized and issued.
We’ll keep you informed by email as the initiative progresses, including how to complete the application when the time comes. The financial commitment is $75, which includes a $25 gift to The Fund for Montclair.
