Red Hawks Give Back: Alumni Volunteering at Montclair State University

Whether you’re five years out or fifty, the Montclair spirit never fades—and neither does your impact. Volunteering is one of the most meaningful ways alumni can stay connected to their alma mater while giving back to the community that helped shape their journey.

From Campus to Community: Alumni Volunteers Make a Difference

There’s something special about returning to Montclair—not just to reminisce, but to make a difference. Every year, alumni from all walks of life step forward to support current students, share professional insights, and help strengthen the Red Hawk network.

Whether it’s serving on advisory boards, speaking at events, mentoring students or helping out at signature events, Montclair offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities that fit every schedule, interest and passion.

“As a first-generation graduate, my time at Montclair provided me with the knowledge, leadership opportunities, and experiences that enabled me to have a successful, interesting career and a full and rich life,” said Jan Snyder Price ’74 ’77 MA. Jan is a member of the Women’s Initiative Network Alumni Affinity Group, and has given back as a volunteer at Homecoming. “It gives me great joy to give back as a volunteer and a donor to the institution that has given me so much.”

“Our alumni network thrives when we welcome new volunteers whose energy and talents enrich our community. These dedicated individuals are more than supporters—they are our strongest ambassadors, sharing their time, passion and pride to champion the university’s mission,” said Jeanne Marano, Associate Vice President of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement. “Through their leadership and example, they inspire others to connect, give back and carry forward a legacy of engagement that strengthens the bond between alumni and the university for generations to come. We invite you to join us!”

For Philip Ventola ’18, staying connected to Montclair has been a meaningful way to build community, reconnect with classmates and meet fellow Red Hawks across generations. As a member of the Recent Alumni Network (RAN), Philip has enjoyed participating in events and opportunities that bring alumni together.

“I graduated from Montclair State University in 2018 and have been involved with the Recent Alumni Network for a little over a year. I am really glad I joined. During that time, I have attended everything from ice skating and social events, to committee meetings, and I volunteered for homecoming. It has been a great way to meet new people and reconnect with classmates while staying connected to the university."
