Opera Productions Named Finalists in The American Prize

Two productions from the John J. Cali School of Music have been named finalists in the Opera Performance - College/University (Smaller Program) division of The American Prize, a national competition recognizing excellence in the performing arts.
The 2024–25 productions of Hansel & Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck and La Calisto by Francesco Cavalli were selected for this distinction.
Directed by Karen Driscoll and conducted by William Hobbs, Hansel & Gretel offered a vibrant production of Humperdinck’s beloved fairy-tale opera. La Calisto, directed by Rebecca Jo Loeb and conducted by Kyle Ritenauer, presented Cavalli’s celebrated work for contemporary audiences.
The American Prize is a national, nonprofit competition that recognizes outstanding performances and productions across the performing arts and features dedicated college and university divisions that allow student ensembles, conductors, opera companies, wind ensembles, and orchestral performers from academic institutions to compete at a national level.
