Odera Umeh Honored Twice by the Land Conservancy of New Jersey for Environmental Excellence

Odera Umeh, a doctoral candidate in the Environmental Science and Management program, advised by Dr. Duke Ophori, has been awarded the Land Conservancy of New Jersey (TLCNJ) Environmental Scholarship, earning the distinction in both 2025 and 2026.

Across both award years, TLCNJ pointed to a similar combination of strengths: a sustained record of academic and research achievements, professional involvement, and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. The committee described Umeh as precisely the kind of emerging leader it set out to support, expressing confidence in the meaningful advancements Umeh is bringing to the environmental field.

Founded in 1981, the Land Conservancy of New Jersey is an accredited, member-supported nonprofit that has helped preserve roughly 28,000 acres of open space statewide. Through preservation, restoration, and stewardship, and a long-running scholarship program for future leaders, it works to protect the land and water resources of the state and to build lasting environmental resilience.
