On Tuesday, October 6th, the College for Community Health hosted its annual Scholarship & Awards Ceremony, honoring 49 students and alumni. The awardees celebrated with their family and friends alongside donors, faculty, and staff who supported them throughout their journey.
A new scholarship, established by the Essex/Passaic Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), was awarded for the first time. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded to a graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health who exhibits academic excellence and is a resident of the area that the affiliate serves. David Wholley, from NAMI’s Essex/Passaic Affiliate, was in attendance to present the award to the inaugural winner, Alison Hurley.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. Today, they are an alliance of more than 650 local Affiliates and 49 State Organizations who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. Through programs and services, NAMI challenges stigma, champions supportive policies, and supports and empowers individuals and families.
