Derek Crescenti

Congratulations to Derek Crescenti, Assistant Professor of Dance in the Department of Theatre and Dance, whose article, “Joining the Dance: Exploring Meaning-Making in Pedagogies of Restaging,” has been published in the latest issue of the Journal of Dance Education. Crescenti joined Montclair State University in 2025 and brings extensive experience as a performing artist, educator, and choreographer. His research explores the historical lineages of dance and how restaging and reconstruction can create meaningful connections between past and present. Drawing on his professional experience with companies including Spectrum Dance Theater, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and 10 Hairy Legs, Crescenti examines how dancers engage with historical repertoires and develop their own understanding of movement and meaning.
