McNair Scholars Complete Summer Research Projects
During Summer 2026, six Bloomfield College of Montclair State University McNair Scholars conducted original research and completed research papers as part of the McNair Scholars Program.
Nkemdilim Ukwu, Assistant Director of the McNair Scholars Program had this to say about the importance of research in the program's curriculum: "Summer research provides educational opportunities for BCMSU McNair Scholars to prepare for an academic pursuit of a PhD degree."
The McNair Scholars Program prepares first-generation and income-eligible undergraduate students for doctoral study and careers in higher education. Funded through a TRIO grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the program provides students with hands-on research opportunities, academic advising, graduate school preparation workshops, and educational seminars that support their academic and professional development.
Through these experiences, McNair Scholars strengthen the research skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue and successfully complete Ph.D. programs. The program also helps prepare students to become the next generation of scholars, researchers, and faculty leaders.
