Plan Your Visit
Admission to the University Galleries is free and open to the public. For groups of 11 people or more, please submit our Group Visit Request Form at least two weeks in advance of your desired visit date. For special accommodations and/or services, please contact us at least two weeks prior to your visit.
Access
We believe in making our events accessible and inclusive for everyone in our community. If you require accommodations or have questions about accessibility, please don’t hesitate to contact the University Galleries at galleries@montclair.edu or 973-655-3382. We want to ensure that every participant attending our programs can engage fully without barriers or limitations.
The Red Hawk Deck, George Segal Gallery, and Alexander Kasser Theater lobby are all wheelchair accessible.
George Segal Gallery
The University Galleries' flagship exhibition space, the George Segal Gallery, is located on the fourth floor of the Red Hawk Parking Deck and is wheelchair accessible.
Alexander Kasser Theater Display Cases
During the fall and spring semesters, exhibitions are on view in the Alexander Kasser Theater lobby. The display cases are located on the ground and mezzanine levels.
Public Hours
- Monday – Friday, 12 – 6 p.m.
- The current exhibition is also viewable when the box office is open. Visit the PEAK website for up to date information on open hours

Alongside presenting exhibitions, the Galleries maintain public art installed throughout the campus.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Galleries open to the general public?
Yes, the University Galleries are open to the public. Exhibitions are scheduled during the academic year, but summer visitors are able to explore outdoor sculptures around campus.
How much is admission?
Admission to the University Galleries is free.
Where can I park?
Visitors to the Montclair State University campus are required to park in the Red Hawk Parking Deck. Rates are determined by the duration of parking.
Where are you located?
Our flagship exhibition space, the George Segal Gallery, is located on the 4th floor of the Red Hawk Parking Deck. The Segal Gallery can also be accessed via outside corridor that runs adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theater.
Can I rent one of your spaces for an event?
Requests to use the Segal Gallery for a special and/or private event are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with an emphasis on events that are related to our exhibitions and programming.
I am an artist. How can I submit my work for consideration?
University Galleries strives to plan exhibitions 3-5 years in advance. If you would like to submit your work for consideration for any future exhibitions, please email galleries@montclair.edu. We are unable to respond to each submission, but may reach out to learn more about your project.
I have some artwork at home. Can you appraise it for me?
Art appraisal is a highly specialized field. Please refer to the Appraisers Association of America to identify an appropriate appraiser.
I have some artwork at home. Can I donate it to the Galleries?
Inquiries about potential gifts of artwork to the University should be directed to the Development office. Please contact giving@montclair.edu or visit their website for more information.
Who was George Segal?
George Segal was born in the Bronx, New York City on November 26, 1924. Segal spent much of his life in New Jersey, where he and his wife Helen owned a chicken farm. Segal became known for his figurative sculptures, creating full-body plaster casts of his models. Segal's work is in dozens of museum collections worldwide, as well as in numerous other public spaces, such as Port Authority Bus Terminal and Christopher Park in New York City. Segal’s work celebrated the ordinary and the everyday, while also addressing socio-political issues. George Segal earned the National Medal of Arts in 1999, awarded by President Clinton. Segal passed away on June 9, 2000.
