The PSEG ISS Green Teams are transdisciplinary teams of students who serve corporations, organizations, non-profits, municipalities, and community groups to address substantial sustainability issues. The PSEG ISS Green Teams Program is a multi-institutional internship program targeted to upper-level undergraduates from any discipline who are interested in sustainability. Teams of five students are constructed from the pool of exceptional applicants coming from many different disciplines and multiple institutions, and whose backgrounds match those required to achieve deliverables requested by the hosting organizations. To ensure students are well-positioned to produce high-quality deliverables, PSEG ISS provides training throughout the course of the program in core sustainability subjects, hands-on experience with sustainability skills, guidance in professional development and communication, and team building.
The 2027 program will run from May 24th, 2027 - August 5th, 2027. The program utilizes a 100% in-person modality at Montclair State University for undergraduate interns. Hosting organizations will be able to meet on a weekly basis with their team of students in any preferred modality (e.g., virtually or in-person).
To better understand your interest, needs, and requirements, we invite interested organizations and corporations to complete the 2027 Green Teams Host Organization Interest Form. This form will open in early September 2026 and close in early December 2026, with the goal of confirming the full slate of host organizations by the end of December 2026. We are available to discuss your ideas and answer questions throughout this process. Green Teams Host Organization Requirements and Expectations
Project Details and Resources
In collaboration with PSEG ISS leadership, host organizations are asked to develop sustainability-themed project that can be completed by a team of 5 interns during a 10-week period. The project should be sufficiently detailed to allow the intern team to clearly understand the topic, scope, and specific deliverables that they are tasked with producing. For projects that require specific internal data or resources (e.g., company documentation, access to proprietary platforms or software, etc.), host organizations are required to make these resources accessible by the start of the summer program. Any delays in data or documentation access may result in a reduction in project scope and deliverables. For sensitive data or documentation, we work closely with our host organization partners to ensure confidentiality and protection.
- Please note: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is prohibited in the Green Teams Program unless an agreement has been made between the host organization and PSEG ISS leadership. If a project requires the use of AI tools, the host organization must make these tools available and ensure their security. The PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies does not have access to secure AI tools and is unable to make these available for Green Teams interns.
Mentorship and Time Commitment
Host organization representatives are asked to commit 1-hour per week during the Green Teams Program project period to meeting with their intern team and providing guidance and feedback on their project progress. Mentorship is a key component of the Green Teams Program and intern teams rely on the expertise and support of their host organization representatives to more deeply understand how their projects connect to real-world applications. We ask that host organization representatives come prepared to each weekly meeting, provide clear and actionable feedback, and otherwise support the process of learning and professional development of the Green Teams interns.
Financial and In-Kind Support
The Green Teams Program is entirely soft-funded, which means that the PSEG ISS team works to ensure program implementation through a combination of government-, community- and philanthropic grants, internal institutional support, and direct payments from host organizations. To provide more reliable support for the Green Teams interns, who each receive a stipend of $7,500, free housing support, and other wraparound services (e.g., resources for travel, food, and clothing needs), we are updating our payment model for the 2027 Green Teams Program cycle. The updated details are included below for corporate partners and community (e.g., government, non-profit, etc) organizations.
