Before your appointment, review your degree progress in DegreeWorks and come with a list of questions. Your advisor can help you with:

Class selection and registration
Schedule planning
Progress toward graduation
Referrals to campus resources

How do I find out who my advisor is?

Log into NEST or Navigate to see your assigned advisor's name and contact information. Freshmen and sophomores are assigned to one of CCOM's Academic Advising staff. After sophomore year, you will be assigned a faculty advisor in your major.

Where are advising offices located?

CCOM Academic Advising offices are located on the second floor of Morehead Hall. Advisor offices are in rooms 211, 213, and 215 in Morehead Hall. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged to ensure availability.

Can I email with a quick question instead of scheduling an appointment?

Yes! For general advising questions, email your assigned advisor directly or for general advising questions, use CCOMadvising@montclair.edu. For more complex questions about degree planning or course sequencing, an appointment is recommended.

What is the difference between an academic advisor and a faculty advisor?

Academic advisors in CCOM support freshmen and sophomores with general advising, scheduling, and campus resources for all CCOM majors. Faculty advisors are professors in your specific major who offer guidance on upper-level coursework, internships, and career exploration. You'll transition to a faculty advisor after your sophomore year.

What can Peer Advisors help me with?

Peer Advisors are trained student staff who can help with class selection, registration questions, and navigating CCOM resources—from a student's perspective. They're a great first resource for quick questions about courses and scheduling.
