Human Rights, Conflict and Migration
In contemporary world politics, nation-states are not only increasingly entangled with each other–sometimes violently–but are also impacted by transnational and other non-state actors, which raises philosophical and practical questions about issues related to state sovereignty, citizenship, and international human rights. That is why Montclair State researchers seek to understand the flux of national borders and identities, mobile populations, continuums of violence and force, international norms and instruments, and judicial and non-judicial mechanisms for addressing human rights abuses in peacetime and war. Scholars conduct research in fields that address such issues as peace-building, war and terrorism, genocide, transitional justice, stateless and refugee populations, human trafficking and modern slavery, immigration, state-building, and diplomacy, among others.
