Chapin Hall Rental Information

Thank you for your interest in renting performance spaces at the John J. Cali School of Music. Chapin Hall spaces are available for approved, non-academic uses during select times of the year, including late December through early January, Spring Break, May through August, and Fall Break. The information below outlines rental rates for Leshowitz Recital Hall, Room G55, and Room 201, along with details about scheduling, staffing, equipment, billing, and audio/video services. Reviewing these details in advance will help students, faculty, staff, and community members understand availability, plan appropriately, and coordinate their event smoothly with the Scheduling and Production Offices.

Facility Rental Rates and Information

Within Chapin Hall, our three large performance spaces (G55201, and the Leshowitz Recital Hall) are available for rental throughout the year. The following rates apply for use of the space:

Weekday Day (Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm)
$100 for the first hour, $50 for each additional hour

Weekday Evening (Monday - Friday, 4pm - 10pm)
$200 for the first hour, $50 for each additional hour

Weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 9am-10pm)
$250 for the first hour, $50 for each additional hour

Rental rates are for non-academic events only (audio and video recordings, rehearsals, non-degree performances, etc.) - these fees do not apply to degree recitals, dress rehearsals, or other for-credit endeavors.

non-refundable $25 deposit is required in order for your reservation to be placed on the Cali School calendar. No reservations will be made without this deposit. Please visit the Scheduling Office in order to book any and all dates.

Portions of an hour are charged as a whole. Events that begin prior to 4:00pm and end after 4:00pm are charged at the evening rate. Other rooms, rates, and availability are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Please discuss any and all production requirements and anticipated schedule with the Production Office after your date and time has been secured.

I. Scheduling & Availability
Thank you for your interest in the John J. Cali School of Music facilities. Please refer to this document for further information about reserving our spaces, including available scheduling windows and rate information for spaces, equipment, and staffing.

Availability
The spaces at the Cali School are only available for rental beyond our primary academic semesters. Rental requests will only be considered during the following windows:

  • Late December through early January
  • Spring Break (typically the second week of March)
  • May through August
  • Fall Break (typically the third week of October)

II. Usage Rates
Usage rates for all Cali School of Music rooms are based off of a day rate defined by a maximum of eight hours of use. Usage beyond eight hours will be billed at the overtime rates below.

Performance Spaces
There are three performance spaces in Chapin Hall, the home of the John J. Cali School of Music. The 225-seat Leshowitz Recital Hall is our primary space for performances while two of our large rehearsal halls (201 and G55) are regularly used for smaller events such as recitals and masterclasses. These two rehearsal rooms have flexible arrangements and can seat audiences of up to 50 guests.

  • Leshowitz Recital Hall - $1,250/day; $250 per hour overtime rate
  • Room G55 (Vocal Rehearsal Hall) - $600/day; $100 per hour overtime rate
  • Room 201 (Ensemble Rehearsal Hall) - $600/day; $100 per hour overtime rate

Additional Classrooms
In tandem with a performance space reservation, additional classrooms may also be reserved. No green room or warm-up room is provided with our performance spaces and must be booked separately via the rate below.

  • Additional classroom reservation - $200/day per room; $50 per hour overtime rate

III. Staffing Rates
Staffing rates for all Cali School of Music reservations are separated into two categories. ‘Required Staffing’ is the minimum required for all reservations within our spaces. ‘Additional Staffing’ is optional and may be booked as needed for additional event support.

Required Staffing
All of our spaces require at least one employee to oversee the space and must be booked at the rate below as part of your reservation.

  • Facilities Manager - $320/day; $50 per hour overtime rate


Additional Staffing
Optional additional staff to support your event may be booked at the rates below. Descriptions of duties are included for reference. Additional staffing is booked hourly with a four hour minimum. Any time beyond the standard eight hours is booked at 1.5 times the hourly rate. Additional staffing needs must be coordinated before the executed contract at the discretion of the Cali School of Music staff (see Section I: Contact).

  • Sound Engineer (for advanced sound needs such as microphones/playback/monitors/etc.) - $40/hour
  • Lighting Technician (for advanced lighting needs such as specials/focus/colour/non-standard concert lighting/etc.) - $40/hour
  • Front of House Manager (for assisting guests with seating/welcome/etc.) - $30/hour
  • Additional Ushers (additional support for Front of House Manager) - $25/hour
  • Stage Crew (additional stage support such as moving chairs/instruments/equipment/etc.) - $25/hour

IV. Equipment Rates

Included Equipment
The following equipment is included with all rentals of our spaces depending on which room is utilized:

Leshowitz Recital Hall

  • A Steinway D piano 
  • Standard lighting & seating (225 seats, built-in)
  • Projection and sound sourced from client device via HDMI
  • Two Sure ULX-D wireless microphones set at a pre-determined level
  • Stands and cables for all equipment
  • Tables (limited by inventory/availability)

G55 & 201

  • A Steinway B piano
  • Standard lighting & seating (movable, up to 50)
  • Projection and sound sourced from client device via HDMI
  • Two Sure ULX-D wireless microphones set at a pre-determined level
  • Stands and cables for all equipment
  • Tables (limited by inventory/availability)
     

Additional Equipment
The following additional equipment may be booked at the rates below. Note: these additional equipment rates are day rates with no hourly limitations - the equipment would be available for your full day.

  • Secondary Steinway B Piano (Leshowitz only, includes moving and tuning) - $200/day
  • Four Meyer MJF Monitors (Leshowitz only, set at a predetermined level; for further control, a Sound Engineer is required to be booked for the event) - $50/day per pair
  • Ten Additional Sure ULX-D Wireless Microphones (Leshowitz only, set at a predetermined level; for further control, a Sound Engineer is required to be booked for the event) - $25/day per microphone
  • For additional needs/specialized equipment, please inquire for further details

V. Audio, Video, and Streaming Services

The Leshowitz Recital Hall
Events in the Leshowitz Recital Hall may be streamed and/or recorded (audio/video) by the Facilities Manager assigned to the event. Recording and streaming cannot be guaranteed, though every effort will be made to reliably capture, stream, and archive the performance. If a video capture or audio recording is integral to the event, an outside company or individual must be engaged at the expense of the client to manage and oversee video capture, editing, and file management.

Rooms G55 & 201

Audio/Video recording and Streaming is not available in rooms G55 or 201. An outside company or individual must be engaged at the expense of the client for recording/streaming in those locations.
