Navigating the Modern Job Market: Industry Leaders Share Key Insights at Feliciano Career Panel

Alumni career panel members

Feliciano School of Business recently hosted an alumni panel where top industry leaders shared critical guidance on how students can stand out in an increasingly competitive, tech-driven job market.

The discussion featured  perspectives from Francisco Cordero (Handshake Relationship Manager), Bianca Camano (Lithia & Driveway Corporate Recruiter), Frank Galinda (Assistant VP of Public Relations and Stakeholder Engagement at Lincoln Technical Institute), and Chrispin Nyakieni (Senior Technology Internal Auditor at J.P. Morgan Chase). Together, they tackled pressing topics ranging from bridging technical skill gaps to cultivating authentic professional relationships.

A central theme of the panel was the dual nature of artificial intelligence in today's hiring landscape. While panelists emphasized that technical literacy in AI, Power BI, and automated workflows is becoming essential across industries, they cautioned job seekers against relying on AI for personal communication. Camano specifically warned against submitting generic, ChatGPT-generated resumes, reminding students that authenticity and interpersonal soft skills remain their strongest assets.

Beyond technical qualifications, the speakers highlighted the transformative power of self-advocacy, networking, and adaptability. Cordero noted that hiring managers actively seek proactive candidates who engage through campus organizations, career centers, and direct outreach. Galindo reinforced the importance of stepping outside one's comfort zone, advising students to track their achievements meticulously and boldly communicate their unique value.

The panel concluded with a strong message of encouragement: academic degrees do not strictly define professional trajectories. By leveraging transferable skills, staying curious, and remaining open to emerging opportunities, early-career professionals can confidently navigate industry shifts and build meaningful, long-term careers.
