Morning Session
During the morning session, participants will engage as learners in a phenomenon-based 5E lesson aligned to the NGSS. Through firsthand experience, they will investigate how intentional instructional routines, purposeful discourse structures, and the strategic integration of Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs), and Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) support all students in making sense of phenomena.

Afternoon Session
In the afternoon session, participants will shift into the role of educators and take a deeper look at the lesson design. Together, they will analyze the three-dimensional student performances, discourse moves, and instructional strategies embedded throughout the lesson and consider how these elements can be adapted and incorporated into their own instructional materials and classroom practice.

What Participants Will Leave With
Participants will leave with practical strategies, a deeper understanding of three-dimensional teaching and learning, and a digital resource collection that includes all lesson materials and a PDF of the presentation slides.

Workshop Format
This workshop will use a facilitated hybrid format. Participants will attend in person at PRISM, located at 1515 Broad Street in Bloomfield, while facilitator Rebecca Garelli joins live by video. Rebecca will lead the workshop and interact directly with participants throughout the day, supported in the room by Montclair State pre-service teachers who will distribute materials, collect documents, and assist with the hands-on activities.

Eligibility:  This workshop is open to any teacher or administrator.
