Biography
Dr. Wontae Son earned his Ph.D. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1995. After completing his doctoral studies, he began his professional career at Samsung SDS as a Business and Strategy Consultant. Over the course of a 20-year career at Samsung, he held key roles in corporate strategy, strategic planning, and global business development. During this time, Dr. Son emerged as a leading business strategist in the U.S. market, successfully securing the company’s first major clients in the United States and South America and winning multiple large-scale contracts through innovative and creative market strategies.
In addition to his corporate career, Dr. Son led a business advisory firm in Silicon Valley, where he developed go-to-market plans and executed market entry strategies for Korean companies seeking to expand into the U.S. market. He continues to provide business advisory services through his own consulting company on an occasional basis.
Dr. Son joined the Department of Management at Montclair State University as an Adjunct Professor in 2017. In 2019, he was appointed as an Instructional Specialist and Assistant Professor, and in 2024 he was promoted to Associate Teaching Professor. Alongside his full-time academic responsibilities, Dr. Son continues to serve as a business advisor to several IT services firms, including JLM Systems, Brainer Consultancy, and Snet Systems.
