Richard Katz

Biography

Dr. Richard Katz is a former superintendent and human resources director who brings a practical, experience-based perspective to leadership, organizational effectiveness, and change management. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with boards of education and leadership teams to strengthen systems and processes, raise accountability and standards, and build trust and shared purpose during periods of organizational and financial complexity.

Dr. Katz has led school districts through challenging moments that required thoughtful decision-making, including aligning resources with priorities, addressing staffing and human capital needs, and improving communication with staff and communities. He is known for helping leadership teams navigate complexity with transparency, structure, and a steady focus on long-term sustainability while improving the day-to-day experience of students and staff.

Dr. Katz earned his doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Montclair State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University. He also completed the Superintendent Leadership Institute at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

In addition to his district leadership roles, Dr. Katz has been actively involved in state and national professional organizations, including ASCD/NJASCD and NJASA, and has mentored new superintendents and administrators.
