Biography
Dr. Elyse L. Postlewaite is a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Research on Youth Thriving and Evaluation at Montclair State University. Dr. Postlewaite is trained as an applied developmental scientist. Her expertise and research interests are in child and adolescent optimal development and thriving in formal and informal education settings for diverse learners. She believes in the capacities of every individual and that optimal development, self-determination, and fulfillment are unique to each person. Dr. Postlewaite conducts mixed-method community-engaged research, partnering with practitioners to develop studies that are personally meaningful to and directly benefit the community she works with. She has expertise in cutting-edge quantitative and qualitative methodologies, ultimately synthesizing multiple data sources to develop expansive and meaningful findings.

As an applied positive developmental psychologist, Dr. Postlewaite takes a relational developmental systems and asset-based perspective to study interacting systems that impact child and adolescent optimal development in an out of schools. Her research focuses on character education as a means for individual and community flourishing. As a former Montessori student, Dr. Postlewaite is also passionate about promoting a deeper understanding of Montessori through research.
