Biography

Dr. Alicia A. Broderick is a Professor of Education with scholarly expertise in Critical Autism Studies (CAS) and Critical Neurodiversity Studies (CNS).  Her work critically examines both structural and interpersonal neuronormativity and neurobigotry, and explores ways to advance neuroinclusive and neuroaffirming practice in employment, schooling, healthcare, public policy, and other sectors.  Her work pays particular attention to the ways that ideologies and concepts proliferate and propagate within neoliberal political economies and information economies, in service of capital and of profit.   

She is the Founding Director of the Institute for Neurodivergent Innovation at Montclair State University, where she works together with colleagues to advance the development of innovative neuroaffirming curricula (at both undergraduate and graduate levels, through interdisciplinary and honors curricular pathways), to support and cultivate neurodivergent leadership, and to develop and disseminate scholarship (including public and multimedia scholarship) that addresses the flaws, failures, and shortcomings of the dominant (and pathologizing) knowledge base about autistic and otherwise neurodivergent experience.
