Academic Department

Journalism and Sports Media

  • College of Communication and Media

The Department of Journalism and Sports Media brings together two complementary majors, Journalism and Digital Media and Sports Communication, to prepare students to be skilled, creative storytellers and critical thinkers in a rapidly changing media landscape. Faculty come from careers in the fields they teach and continue to research where those fields are heading, giving students mentorship from professionals and scholars who understand both the craft and the industry.

What Sets the Journalism and Sports Media Programs Apart

Students work with industry-standard tools and gain real-world experience throughout the program. The curriculum is built around the fundamentals of finding, reporting, and telling true stories accurately and ethically, with enough flexibility to keep pace with how quickly journalism and sports media continue to evolve.

Whether you're drawn to reporting, digital media, broadcast, or sports communication, the department gives you a strong grounding in the principles that cut across all of them: context, accuracy, ethics, and the ability to tell stories that matter to real audiences
