Our mission is to empower students to achieve academic success by providing personalized guidance, comprehensive support, and meaningful opportunities that foster persistence through graduation and beyond. TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program that helps first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities successfully navigate college and graduate within six years. Through individualized academic coaching, advising, tutoring, financial literacy education, grant aid, career and graduate school planning, educational workshops, cultural enrichment, and other academic resources, TRIO SSS equips students with the tools and support needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Established at Bloomfield College in 2000, the TRIO SSS grant is currently funded through 2030 by the U.S. Department of Education. The program serves up to 160 undergraduate students each year at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University.

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program is a comprehensive academic support program whose mission is to guide, support, and retain its students so that they may successfully graduate from Bloomfield College as knowledgeable global citizens.
Eligibility and Admission
A student must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S., enrolled as an undergraduate student at Bloomfield College, and be in need of academic support to be eligible for TRIO. Additionally, prospective students must identify as any of the following: a first-generation college student, be income eligible as determined by the federal guidelines, or have a documented learning or physical disability.
Program Benefits
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) provides comprehensive support to help students achieve academic success, persist through graduation, and prepare for future careers. Participants have access to academic and personal coaching, tutoring services, career counseling, financial aid advising and advocacy, financial literacy education, academic planning, graduate and professional school preparation, and assistance with federal and state financial aid applications. Additional resources include the First-Year Mentor Program, a student computer lab, textbook, laptop, and calculator loans, cultural and social engagement opportunities, letters of recommendation, ongoing academic progress monitoring, and, for eligible students, financial assistance through the TRIO SSS Grant.
Program Expectations
As members of the TRIO SSS community, participants are expected to actively engage in the program by attending monthly one-on-one coaching meetings, participating in academic and professional development opportunities throughout their time at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University, and attending at least two TRIO-sponsored events each academic year.
