Bloomfield Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF)

EOF students will participate in the following:

• Five-week residential Pre-College Summer Bridge Program
• Individual and group counseling (academic, personal, financial and career)
• Social and civic engagement activities including monthly group unity meetings
• Career Development Based Programs (internships, job shadowing, mock interviewing etc.)
• Peer Mentoring programs to assist first year students
• Legacy of Leaders celebration to celebrate the student leaders on campus
• Pride Day celebration to recognize students’ academic achievements
• Leadership Empowerment Series/Workshops
• Individual and group professional tutors to help students become stronger academically
• Motivational Student Support Program (MSSP) sessions to help students study in groups
• Positive Academic Student Support (P.A.S.S) program to help students enhance their academic growth

What is the Bloomfield College at Montclair State University EOF Summer Program?

As a condition of your Admissions to Bloomfield College at Montclair State University, students must attend the free Bloomfield EOF Summer Program. The Summer Program is an intensive academic program that will aid in the transition from high school to college. EOF will provide texts and summer tuition.

Is the Bloomfield EOF Summer Program mandatory?

The Bloomfield EOF Summer Program is mandatory for all admitted Bloomfield EOF students. Students who do not attend the Summer Program may not attend Bloomfield College as a First-Year EOF student. 

What are the requirements to participate in the Bloomfield EOF Summer Program?

You must be admitted to Bloomfield College through the EOF program. As an admitted student, you must confirm your attendance at Bloomfield College through the admissions portal.

What classes will I take and will I receive credit?

Students will be enrolled in courses (generally, math, writing and first-year seminar) to earn college credits. First-Year Seminar is designed to help you make a successful transition from high school to college. The course aims to foster a sense of community by promoting curricular and co-curricular engagement, helps develop and apply effective communication, metacognitive, and critical thinking skills, and will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and direction that will promote success in higher education.

What will a typical day look like?

Students will be enrolled in courses to earn college credits. The structure of the day is intensive in that students will have class Monday through Thursday for the full five weeks of the summer program. Classes begin in the morning (generally, 9am - 12 noon), followed by a lunch break. Students will then return to class starting at 1:00 p.m. until about 4:00 p.m. Students will then be scheduled for one on one meetings with their counselors followed by a dinner break. Upon return from the dinner break they may be scheduled for their weekly Summer Tutor Counselor meetings, or tutoring followed by Summer Program social hour from 6-7 pm. Please note that all these requirements are mandated as part of the summer program.
