Cali Marketing and Communications
The Cali School of Music Communications Office supports the school’s digital, print, and promotional needs, including event marketing, newsletters, social media, branded materials, and select merchandise. Please use the information below to submit requests and access Cali communication resources.
Marketing Resources
To support effective and thorough promotion, please submit event information through the Cali Event Marketing Form at least two months before your event whenever possible. Earlier submissions are especially helpful for larger events that may require additional marketing support.
Submissions received less than two months before an event will be accommodated as time and resources allow; full promotional support, inclusion in all relevant channels, and completion of marketing materials by the desired date cannot be guaranteed.
Events may be promoted through a combination of Cali School and University channels, depending on the event and audience. These may include the University website calendar, Cali website calendar, digital flat screen displays in Chapin Hall and across campus, the monthly Cali newsletter, Cali social media channels, University social media when appropriate, email communications to students, faculty, alumni and other targeted audiences, and selected community and regional calendar listings such as TAPinto Montclair, NorthJersey.com, Patch, Baristanet, and Montclair Girl.
Major events may also receive additional promotion through University Communications, media outreach and press releases, paid or partner advertising, community organizations, local arts and cultural networks, and cross promotion with participating artists, ensembles and partner organizations.
Promotional channels will be selected based on the size, audience, timing and marketing needs of each event; not every event will be promoted through every channel.
To support a more streamlined and sustainable marketing process, individual printed flyers will not be produced for every event. A digital event graphic will be created as appropriate and may be used across social media, digital displays and other relevant promotional channels. Printed materials will be reserved for select major events and broader campaigns.
Please allow 2 weeks to create your marketing materials (social media story/feed graphic, flatscreen slide, website graphic). They will be available at this link when completed (Please bookmark):
Please tag @montclair_cali when posting your event on social media.
Please include as much information as you have. It is okay if some details are still being finalized. Please email Marketing Manager Heather Kern at kernh@montclair.edu if you have any questions.
Faculty, staff, and students may submit news, announcements, event highlights, achievements, and opportunities for consideration in Cali’s email newsletters. Submissions should be concise and include all relevant details, including names, dates, links, deadlines, and images when available. Newsletter items are reviewed and edited for clarity, length, and alignment with Cali School of Music communications priorities.
The Cali School of Music shares selected stories, events, student and faculty achievements, performances, behind the scenes moments, and school announcements on its social media channels. To request social media coverage or promotion, please provide a short description, relevant dates, tags or handles, photo or video assets, and any preferred language. Social media requests are considered based on timing, audience interest, available materials, and overall communications priorities.
Areas, ensembles, programs, studios, and other groups within the Cali School of Music may maintain affiliated social media accounts to share news, events, student achievements, rehearsals, performances, opportunities, and community updates. These accounts should support the mission and public image of the Cali School of Music and Montclair State University.
Beginning this academic year, all new University-affiliated social media accounts must be reviewed and approved through the University social media request form before they are created. This process helps ensure compliance with University branding, governance, security, and account management standards.

Account Naming and Branding
Affiliated accounts must clearly identify their connection to the Cali School of Music. Account names and handles should align with the Cali brand whenever possible. Examples include @montclair_brass, @montclair_voice, @montclair_strings, or another clear variation that identifies both the area and its connection to Montclair.
Accounts must use the official Cali School of Music social media logo as their profile image. The logo may be customized by adding the name of the area, studio, ensemble, or program in a clear and professional format following the approved example, such as montclair_brass.
Please do not stretch, distort, recolor, crop, or otherwise modify the official logo beyond adding the approved area name.

Content Guidelines
Content should be accurate, appropriate, inclusive, and professional. Accounts may share event promotion, student and faculty accomplishments, performance highlights, rehearsal and behind-the-scenes content, deadlines, opportunities, and approved announcements.
Accounts should not post confidential information, protected student records, copyrighted materials without permission, or content that is inappropriate, discriminatory, offensive, political in nature, or inconsistent with University standards.
When sharing photos or videos, account managers should use good judgment and ensure that students, faculty, guest artists, and the school are represented respectfully.
Whenever possible, tag the main Cali School of Music account, @montclair_cali, so content can be shared or amplified through the school’s main channels. Event posts should include accurate dates, times, locations, ticketing information, and relevant Cali or University links.
Account Management
Each account must have at least one faculty or staff member responsible for oversight. Login information should be kept secure and shared only with approved account managers.
If responsibility for an account changes, the area must update account access and notify the Cali Communications Office.
The Cali Communications Office may request edits, removals, branding updates, or account changes when necessary to maintain consistency, accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with Cali School of Music and University communications standards.
The Cali logo may be used for approved school related digital and print materials, including event flyers, programs, presentations, posters, signage, and web or email communications. Please use the official logo files as provided and do not stretch, distort, recolor, crop, or alter the logo. When placing the logo, allow adequate clear space around it and ensure it remains legible. For materials representing the Cali School of Music publicly, please use the approved logo and follow Montclair State University brand guidelines when applicable.

Montclair’s storytelling brings our brand pillars—academic rigor, affordability, accessibility, diversity and inclusion, outcomes, and location—to life through authentic first-person voices. By highlighting real people and experiences, from high-demand academic programs and research to campus life, rankings, and future opportunities, it conveys a strong sense of belonging, possibility, and impact. The focus remains on each person and their journey, with the red chair serving as a simple visual cue that signals there is a seat for you here. This approach is easy to repeat, flexible across formats, and distinctive enough to build recognition over time while consistently reinforcing who we are and what we offer as a public-serving university.
