One of the best ways to learn more about a major is to experience it firsthand. Throughout the year, we offer programs and events that help you explore your interests and connect with the different Colleges and Schools across campus. 

Experiences like Crash-A-Class allow you to sit in on real courses and see what learning inside a particular major is actually like, while Academic Exploration Week introduces you to the wide variety of resources and opportunities available on campus. Workshops, panels and other exploratory events can also help you discover new interests, build community, ask questions and learn from faculty, staff and your peers. 

Academic Exploration Week is held every fall semester and Crash-A-Class is held every semester in the weeks leading up to Registration.

Taking introductory courses in different subject areas is a great way to explore potential majors while earning credits toward your degree. Some courses may fulfill SEEDS General Education Requirements, while others fulfill specific major pre-requisite coursework. These courses can help you discover what interests you, what challenges you and what you may want to pursue further.

Before registering, talk with your Academic Advisor about courses that support exploration while keeping you on track toward your academic goals.

Some of the most valuable insights come from talking with people who can share their perspectives and experiences. Talk with your instructors, connect with students in majors you're considering, reach out to alumni, or speak with professionals working in fields that interest you. Family members, friends, and people in your community can also offer valuable perspectives based on their own educational and career experiences.

Career Services can also help you build connections through workshops, networking events, employer programs, and career exploration resources like informational interviewing. These conversations can help you gain new perspectives and better understand what different academic and career paths might look like.
