Students from Newark Academy visited Sprague Library for a series of immersive research sessions, with some participating in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, a globally recognized and academically rigorous high school curriculum, and others attending to gain valuable academic experience. From May 27 to June 1, 2026, approximately 100 students took part in three full-day visits focused on developing their Extended Essays, a central component of the IB program.

The Extended Essay requires students to conduct independent research and produce a scholarly paper on a topic of their choice. During their time at the library, students engaged with print collections, explored databases, and worked alongside professional librarians to refine their research questions and identify credible sources. This year’s program builds on the success of last summer’s collaboration.

Students complete there work with far more than a list of sources; they developed stronger research skills, greater academic independence, and a clearer understanding of what college-level work demands. University Libraries values the opportunity to engage with these students and continues to build partnerships that support learning.
